Hello, and welcome to my blog! My name is Michelle. I am senior at the University of Oregon, and I am studying public relations.
I started out at the U of O, positive I was going to graduate with a sports marketing degree. However, after realizing that wasn’t quite the right fit for me, I found out about the wonderful School of Journalism and Communication. Here is where I have become comfortable in my own skin and have found a passion: the nonprofit inudstry.
I found my passion through my first internship, which was with The March of Dimes. I’ll admit I wasn’t sure of what I was getting into, but during my eight-month internship I had grown to love what I was doing. I’ve always been the helpful one out of my friends, and I would never hesitate to help someone when needed. Nonprofit work is the perfect way to combine my helpfulness and my PR skills into one.
I currently intern at the Relief Nursery, a great local nonprofit in Lane County. I’ve been lending a hand with the development department since September 2011. I enjoy all of my co-workers I’ve had the opportunity to work with over the past five months. Aside from my volunteer work with Relief Nursery, I serve on the Sub-Committee for Sponsorship and Fundraising for the UO Relay for Life. And, this spring I will participate in the Portland Senior Experience.
I am so excited for the adventures that lie ahead of me, and I look forward to making as many new discoveries as I can about the PR world along the way!
